Sir Kenneth (Ken) Calman practiced as an oncologist and was subsequently Chief Medical Officer in Scotland and then England. He became Vice Chancellor of the University of Durham, and subsequently Chancellor of the University of Glasgow. He has been Chair of the National Trust for Scotland, and Chair of Scotland’s National Library. But he might prefer to be remembered as an author and poet. About the ship, he said “ It’s a wonderful project. I can see that we need as many people as possible to understand the importance and the excitement. Just wait for the sea trials! “
