Saturday 27 May to Saturday 3 June – Royal Burial Tours at the National Trust Sutton Hoo site

Enjoy a guided tour of the Sutton Hoo Royal Burial Ground, led by a guide from the Sutton Hoo Society. These tours are available between 12 pm and 2 pm and are popular so spaces fill quickly, so we’d recommend arriving early to avoid disappointment.

Tours are included as part of the standard entrance fee – National Trust site admission prices.

 

Saturday 27 May to Monday 29 May – Living History weekend at the National Trust Sutton Hoo site

Step back over 1000 years in time to enjoy the sights, sounds and smells of Anglo-Saxon life as we welcome Thegns of Mercia for a weekend full of living history. The full programme includes live demonstrations and short events to bring history alive – the full programme can be seen here

Entrance is free with National Trust site admission prices.

 

Tuesday 30 May – Storytelling in the Woods at the National Trust Sutton Hoo site

Hear epic tales as you join our Anglo-Saxon storytellers for a journey through time in the woods at Sutton Hoo. Sessions will be at 10.45 am, 12 pm, and 1.30 pm. Each session lasts approximately half an hour. Stories are suitable for most ages but check with the storyteller for children under 10. Children should be accompanied at all times.

Entrance is free with National Trust site admission prices.

 

Suffolk Show – Wednesday 31 May and Thursday 1 June

If you are staying in the area why not go to the Suffolk Show and visit the Sutton Hoo Society and the National Trust Sutton Hoo stand? Learn about the Anglo-Saxons and see the authentic costumes worn by the volunteers.

Spinning and Weaving demonstrations by the Framlingham Spinners and Weavers Club

The spinners and weavers will be in the Longshed on Saturday 27 May between 11 am – 3 pm and 10 am – 4 pm on Saturday 3 June. Just drop in to see them at work. The group have been supporting the Sutton Hoo Ship’s Company by making traditional seating pads.

 

Talks and Tours hosted by The Sutton Hoo Ship’s Company at the Longshed in Woodbridge – home of the replica Sutton Hoo Ship build

Small group tours of the replica building site are available by contacting events@saxonship.org. Tours for up to 6 people lasting 30 minutes are £25 but need to be booked in advance as there will be limited availability.

Demonstration of tree cleaving and plank conversation by the Sutton Hoo Ship’s Company at the Longshed from 11 am on Thursday 1 June and during the day on Friday 2 June – Free of charge
